about

This is my first solo EP from 2009. Recorded by Lance Owens in Madison, WI at his home. I played all the instruments, except for drums, which were played by Mike Grunder. "Montana Bus" didn't appear on the physical pressing of the CD and was supposed to be on "New Feet" but didn't fit. So digitally I'm putting it with this one. Makes sense, stylistically.

Making this little record layed the foundation for Lance, Mike G., and I's neverending friendship. Soon after this, we started a band called The Gentlemen Trailblazers and made a lot of jokes about things and wrote songs together and drank non-alcoholic beers in Lance's basement.

PRESS:
"If Bob Dylan were handing out goodies to trick-or-treaters, he might choose Mike Behrends' EP. The lyrics aren't quite Dylan-esque, but the chills they conjure up are the same ones I had listening to "Blood on the Tracks" many cold autumns ago." —Jessica Steinhoff, The Isthmus

"When it comes to this EP, the only disappointment is that it is not longer."—The Badger Herald

"A lonely man from up north, Mike Behrends will crush your heart with his wind-in-the-pines voice and musical tales of woodsmen, seafarers, miners, and... beards."—Roger Ewalt in The Daily Page
